The 2023 LTSMG (Learning and Teaching Spaces Managers Group) conference, hosted at Loughborough University, marked its largest gathering yet, attracting participation from over 90 universities. The event featured a comprehensive exhibition with more than 40 manufacturers like Biamp, Crestron, and LG showcasing a variety of educational technology including flat panels, projectors, and digital signage.
The conference included engaging panels and presentations, starting with an interview with Greg Jeffreys, who discussed his extensive AV career and current work on AVIXA standards, particularly for Microsoft Teams Rooms and user experience. Ben Pain from the Royal College of Physicians shared insights from his project “The Spine” in Liverpool, which won the 2023 Inavation Award for Healthcare Project of the Year.
The focus also turned to emerging technologies in higher education, with discussions on the increasing adoption of LED technology and the integration of augmented and virtual reality in teaching. Notably, Keele University is applying AR for engineering education and VR for medical training, while Cambridge University is exploring VR for immersive learning in its MBA program.
The conference also featured a unique social event, an Oktoberfest-themed evening at a Bierkeller in Nottingham, providing a festive networking opportunity. The following day included a significant presentation on Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion in HE IT/AV by Iffat Chaudry, highlighting the conference’s commitment to addressing important sector issues.
